Stay at Home Mom: Are You Participating or Just Spectating?
It’s easy to get caught up in watching what everyone else is doing, rather than watching what you’re doing with your own life.
Has people watching got the best of you?
Things we love to watch: rising music careers, tutorials for making web based businesses, people that help kids, YouTube channel sensations, cottage industry success stories, travel adventures, before and after makeovers, animal rescues, real estate buying shows, talk shows for moms, vloggers turned millionaires, and my favorite… home renovation shows.
It’s intriguing watching someone move through a vulnerable situation, create something cool, or overcome challenging circumstances. That’s what keeps you hooked and coming back for more on their social media sites and reality shows.
Technology is fun, helpful, and inspiring in so many ways, but it can be harmful, too.
Is more of your time spent spectating or participating?
Count up the minutes and hours you catch up on social media sites, people you follow, and reality shows. It’s probably in the neighborhood of 3-4 hours a day. Multiply that by 7, and you’ve got an average of 25 hours a week, or the equivalent of having a part time job.
Granted you spread that spectating time throughout the day and night, fitting it in when it’s convenient. But if you seriously counted up the hours spent watching what everyone else is doing, you’ve impaired your ability to invest in something positive for yourself.
Like maybe diving into one of your own passion pursuits?
Living vicariously through someone else is cheating yourself from the opportunity to make the most of what you are designed to do. You were created to employ your talents and skills, follow your passions, and fulfill your purposes… not to just watch others do it.
And yes… to do it while you’re raising your kids!
And the people you’re watching… what do they have going on that you don’t?
It’s nothing more than an investment of hard work, many hours, and lots of closed doors before they found their place in the limelight. In fact, many of them have less talent than you, they’ve just applied lots of elbow grease to reach their goals.
They started with a dream, took one step forward and two steps back, and finally figured out how to make progress. They learned how to squeeze time out of their busy life to invest in their passion pursuit. They made sacrifices and focused on how to make their dream become a reality, and wanted it more than just watching others experience it.
The results of their dedication is what you see today. Sometimes we get to hear the inside story of their successes and failures, and that’s powerful fuel for us.
It makes the impossible possible. Ordinary people like you and me can reach our dreams when we choose to participate, and not just be a spectator. It happens when we believe we have something valuable to share and set our mind to go for it.
If you’re waiting to go after your dreams until some life changing event happens, you’re missing the boat completely. You’ll reach your dream destination one small step at a time.
Ordinary becomes extraordinary.
Ever since I was a little girl, I had a vision of bringing a message of love and encouragement to others. As I grew older, I started to see what that vision was about. My passion developed into teaching and equipping others to go after their dreams, because I believe passions and purposes are woven together.
You can teach someone how to develop their natural talents and skills, but you can’t teach passion. If I can help someone identify what their passions are, I can help them develop the mindset and skills that will get them to their dreams.
I learned that my passion pursuit experience is simply putting one foot after another, while keeping my eye on the goal every day. I meet challenges head on, determined that nothing is too big to get in my way, and stretch myself to learn everything I can to take each new step.
I’m just an ordinary person who has an extraordinary dream, and I’m willing to invest the hard work to make it happen. And, guess what? The dream keeps evolving and new avenues of opportunity keep popping up.
Don’t ever let someone else’s life experience be the cause of you not pursuing your dreams. It’s too easy to get stuck as a spectator.
Go ahead… let your heart lead the conversation:
- What does your dream destination look like?
- Are you aiming to become an expert in this area, or a specialist in a favorite niche?
- Do you want to teach others how to experience your activity, write about it, or create something with it?
- Maybe you’re already investing in it, or enjoying your passion in some way, but is it enough to take you from ordinary to extraordinary?
When you put spectating in its place, the world becomes a richer place because you are participating. You never know the impact you might make when your passion touches the world.
Think about it… what if following your passion pursuit becomes the reason for someone else to follow their passion, too?
Here are a few key questions to help you start participating:
- What do have to work right now, to begin investing in your passion pursuit?
- What more do you need to know to help you take another step toward your dream destination?
- Is there something standing in the way of taking your dream pursuit to the next level?
- If you were to pick just one step to make today, what would it be?
Something leads to something, and nothing leads to… well, nothing. If you just get the ball rolling toward your passion pursuit, you’ll experience so much more than your initial dream. As you apply your talents, a clear sense of purpose will emerge, and renewed energy will positively affect every corner of your life!
What is one of your passions, and how are your pursing it? I’d love to hear your story, so please share!
